How to Pair a DualShock 4 or Xbox Wireless Controller With iPhone and Apple TV

With iOS 13 and tvOS 13, Apple users are now able to connect their favorite console controllers to an iPhone or Apple TV. In this guide, we’ve provided a quick rundown of how to go about pairing the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller and Xbox Wireless Controller to both iOS and tvOS devices.

Previously, MFi controllers were the only solution to playing games on iPhone, iPad, and ‌Apple TV‌. With the new update, console players don’t need to spend extra money on another controller to play iOS and tvOS games. PS4 players also have a reason to look into DualShock 4 pairing since Sony’s Remote Play iOS app provides streaming of compatible games to the iPhone or ‌iPad‌, which can now be controlled by a DualShock 4.

How to connect the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller to iPhone or ‌iPad‌

  1. Press and hold the PS logo and Share buttons simultaneously on your DualShock 4 controller until the light bar flashes.
  2. Open your iOS device’s Settings app and navigate to Bluetooth.
  3. Under “Other Devices,” tap on your DualShock 4 wireless controller.

How to connect the Xbox Wireless Controller to iPhone or ‌iPad‌

  1. Press the Xbox button to turn on the Xbox Wireless Controller.
  2. Press and hold the Connect button for a few seconds.
  3. Open your iOS device’s Settings app and navigate to Bluetooth.
  4. Under “Other Devices,” tap on your Xbox Wireless Controller.

Sony’s Remote Play iOS app controlled via DualShock 4

The steps for pairing controllers with an ‌Apple TV‌ are largely similar to the ones for iOS devices. You can find this information below.

How to connect the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller to ‌Apple TV‌

  1. Press and hold the PS logo and Share buttons simultaneously on your DualShock 4 controller until the light bar flashes.
  2. Open the Settings app on ‌Apple TV‌ > click Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
  3. Select the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller to pair it, which will be confirmed with a notification on tvOS.

How to connect the Xbox Wireless Controller to ‌Apple TV‌

  1. Press the Xbox button to turn on the Xbox Wireless Controller.
  2. Press and hold the Connect button for a few seconds.
  3. Open the Settings app on ‌Apple TV‌ > click Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
  4. Select the Xbox Wireless Controller to pair it, which will be confirmed with a notification on tvOS.

It should be noted that for the DualShock 4, some controller functions will not be functional while connected to an iPhone, ‌iPad‌, or ‌Apple TV‌. These include the touchpad, the central PS button, rumble, motion sensor, and the headphone jack. The light bar will also remain one color and can not be changed.

Both the PS4 and Xbox controllers will stay connected to the iOS/tvOS device you’ve paired them with until you repair them with your console. To reconnect a DualShock 4 with a PS4, you’ll need to manually connect the controller with the console via the micro-USB to USB cable each controller comes with. For Xbox, you can press the connect button on the controller and the console at the same time, or use a micro-USB to USB cable.

Apple and A24 Partnering for Film Adaptation of Jandy Nelson’s Young Adult Novel ‘The Sky is Everywhere’

Apple has set up its second partnership with film studio A24, this time for an adaptation of the young adult novel “The Sky is Everywhere” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“The Sky is Everywhere” will be directed by Josephine Decker and the film will be written by the novel’s author, Jandy Nelson. The book was published in 2010 and tells the story of a high schooler named Lennie Walker who is coping with the sudden death of her older sister.

A24 is an indie entertainment studio, most recently known for releasing films like “The Lighthouse,” “Midsommar,” “Mid90s,” and “Eighth Grade.”

‌Apple TV‌+ is set to launch in a few weeks on November 1, and the company has already begun premiering its shows at press events, starting with “For All Mankind.”

New Report Dives Into History of Apple TV+ As November 1 Launch Nears

With just over two weeks to go until the launch of Apple TV+, The Hollywood Reporter today shared a deep dive into the service’s history. The new report reiterates that the majority of projects coming out of ‌Apple TV‌+ will reflect Apple’s aspirational company brand — a move that has led to behind-the-scenes drama for shows like Amazing Stories and the shelved Vital Signs.

Despite previous reports, ‌Apple TV‌+ will not solely focus on family-friendly content; as long as explicit content serves the story, Apple will approve of the project. Still, Apple is steering the platform to be headlined by its so-called aspirational brand identity, putting the brakes on an “edgy, high-concept” version of Amazon Stories in favor of one with an aspirational viewpoint told by Once Upon A Time’s Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

In addition to the $1 billion annual content budget Apple allotted for ‌Apple TV‌+ (which Apple is believed to have overshot), the company is said to be offering every showrunner and series regular a free Apple product. According to today’s report, Apple has dispatched representatives to ‌Apple TV‌+ show sets to “take orders” regarding which style of iPhone or iPad the crew would like.

As the launch nears, the behind-the-scenes of ‌Apple TV‌+ has been chaotic, according to multiple sources. Particularly, the company has struggled with arranging early critic and tastemaker screenings, which can help promote early buzz for launch shows like The Morning Show and See. According to one unnamed publicist, Apple is treating the TV+ rollout like a product launch and not a TV service launch, leading to some unrest.

One issue that numerous sources brought up was ‌Apple TV‌+’s lack of a large back catalog, which will look particularly troublesome for the company alongside Disney+ and its hundreds of hours of TV and movies dating back to the 1930’s. As expected, analysts suggest Apple will acquire a content creator to address this issue in the future, suggesting such companies like MGM, Lionsgate, Sony, and A24.

Apple has also begun work on funding its own content through a new “Masters” internal production studio, the first project for which will be a follow-up to HBO’s Brand of Brothers and The Pacific series called Masters of the Air. With its own studio, Apple will wholly own all of the shows and movies it creates, instead of having to work with other partners like Amblin Television.

Goldman Sachs CEO Calls Apple Card the ‘Most Successful Credit Card Launch Ever’

The Apple Card was “the most successful credit-card launch ever,” according to Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon (via CNBC). The quote came from a Goldman Sachs conference call held earlier today, in which Solomon discussed the bank’s new initiatives with its investors.

Apple created the ‌Apple Card‌ in partnership with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard, launching the credit card in August. Solomon stated that since the August launch, the bank has seen a high level of consumer demand for the ‌Apple Card‌.

“In three short years, we have raised $55 billion in deposits on the Marcus platform, generated $5 billion in loans, and built a new credit-card platform and launched ‌Apple Card‌,” Solomon said, adding “which we believe is the most successful credit-card launch ever.”

“Since August, we’ve been pleased to see a high level of consumer demand for the product. From an operational and risk perspective, we’ve handled the inflows smoothly and without comprising our credit underwriting standards.”

iPhone owners can sign up for ‌Apple Card‌ right in the Wallet app on iOS, and once they’re approved they can begin using the digital version of the card immediately. ‌Apple Card‌ also comes in a physical titanium credit card to be used at places that don’t accept Apple Pay.

Netgear Launches New Orbi Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi System for $230

Netgear today announced a new mesh router in the Orbi family of products, called the Orbi Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi System. The new system consists of one router and one or more satellites, and is aimed at homes that measure up to 4,500 square feet (with two satellites).

The router and satellites all feature the same design, measuring 4.1 inches on all sides and 2.7 inches tall. As with other mesh systems, after users purchase the base router they can continue to add on satellites to boost the range of the network throughout the home.

The new router delivers Wi-Fi at speeds up to 1.2Gbps, supports MU-MIMO for simultaneous data streaming, includes two high performance internal antennas, and is powered by a quad-core 710MHz processor. Because it’s a dual band router, it also supports 2.4GHz (400Mbps) and 5GHz (866Mbps) bands.

The Orbi Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi System features Netgear Armor cybersecurity, which is built into the router and satellites to protect the user’s mobile devices and computers. Netgear Armor features anti-virus, anti-malware, and data protection for an unlimited number of devices.

The system also includes Netgear’s Circle parental controls, allowing parents to set age-appropriate settings for each family member, enable safe search, block certain ads, and more.

The parental control settings and other features are performed through Netgear’s Orbi app on iOS and Android, including the device’s setup process. In the app, users can perform speed tests, manage devices on their network, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and more.

The Orbi Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi System is available to purchase today for $229.99, including one router and two satellites.
